📝 Patient Information – Prepare for Your Appointment
We aim to make your visit as smooth and effective as possible. Below is important guidance to help you prepare for your consultation with Mr. V.K. Wagh, Consultant Eye Surgeon, in Greater London.
👁️ What to Expect During Consultations
Your consultation will include a thorough discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and a detailed eye examination. Depending on your condition, additional tests or pupil dilation may be required.
- Patients referred for cataract surgery, flashes or floaters, diabetic eye disease, or macular degeneration may require pupil dilation—please allow extra time and should not drive after the test.
- If you're a contact lens wearer and are being assessed for cataract surgery, please stop wearing your lenses:
- Soft lenses: stop 1 week before your appointment
- Hard lenses: stop 2 weeks before
🚗 Important: Please do not drive to your appointment if:
- You are likely to undergo pupil dilation
- You are attending for cyst removal, eyelid surgery, or minor procedures
- You are being assessed or treated for cataract surgery
Your vision may be blurred following these procedures or drops, and you may need assistance getting home safely.
📩 Referrals and Triage
To optimise your care and determine suitability, we encourage patients or referring clinicians to contact us in advance:
Email: secretary@londoneyespecialist.co.uk
If possible, please include:
- Reason for referral
- A copy of the referral letter
This helps us assess whether you are suitable to be treated by Mr. Wagh, or whether another sub-specialist would be more appropriate. It also allows us to plan whether your review should be face-to-face or virtual, and if any special investigations are needed at a particular clinic.
💳 Insurance & Payment Options
We accept self-pay and most major UK private medical insurers. Please confirm your insurance cover prior to booking. Our team is happy to provide a fee estimate if required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral?
While not mandatory for self-pay patients, a referral helps us provide the most appropriate care.
How long will my appointment take?
Please allow 30–60 minutes, or longer if dilation or tests are required.
Can I drive myself to the appointment?
No, if your visit may involve pupil dilation, eyelid procedures, or cataract consultation or treatment, we strongly advise arranging alternative transport.
Does Mr. Wagh perform cosmetic eyelid surgery, laser eye surgery, or laser vision correction?
No. Mr. Wagh does not perform cosmetic or laser refractive surgery—only therapeutic eyelid surgery when it affects vision or function.
